The Pyke Cable hat makes use of cables in a creative way that moves beyond basic cables and creates dramatic movement throughout the hat. Knit in a DK weight, it is not as bulky as a medium worsted weight- DK has become one of the most popular thicknesses of yarn in the past few years! I am knitting my sample in Alpaca, there are so many great options!
Supplies (not included with price of class, please buy needed supplies at Sun Dragon):
- Approximately 200 yards of a DK weight yarn
- size US 4 (3.5mm) and 6 (4 mm)) 16" circular needles, DPNs US 6 or longer circular to finish hat, cable needle, stitch marker, wool needle for sewing in ends. (The DPNs and wool needle are not needed at the beginning of this hat)
- Pyke Hat pattern, $4.20 on Ravelry- we can help you purchase this in the store
If you want to start cabling right away, we recommend you prep the following: with smaller needles, cast on 120 stitches. Join in the round, and work a k2, p2 rib for approximately 2.5". This is not required, we can start the hat in class and review cables before the end of the class!
If you can't make this time, contact me to arrange a lesson at another time.
