This quick knit hat is a great way to learn the stranded colorwork (fair isle) technique on big needles and big yarn, a wonderful last minute holiday gift for someone (or yourself!). There are two options: a two color plaid, or the pictured 4 color Indian Corn hat, both suggest a third or fifth color for the ribbing brim. Needles may change depending on the yarn you choose, we have kits available if you like our shop colors!
Supplies (not included with price of class, please buy needed supplies at Sun Dragon; starting in March supplies bought at Sun Dragon specifically for Saturday classes are 10% off):
Approximately 90-180 yards of a super bulky yarn (depends on size of hat and thickness of yarn) in 3-5 colors. Sample was made in Wool Addicts Fire, kits available of that yarn for $57.50.
US size 13 & 15 16” circular needles, or size needed for gauge. We can help you assess what size needles you may need depending on your yarn, and may try a gauge swatch in class. Gauge with the bigger needles is 9 stitches =4”, but the colorwork will shrink this. If you gauge with one color, go up a needle size.
Large stitch marker.
Indian Corn Plaid Hat by Patternberry, #3.50 on Ravelry. We can also help you get this, and print it for you, in the shop.
