Saturday May 6, 10 am. First session is April 15.
Fee includes instruction only, we have yarn combo kits available for purchase, or we can help you select yarn from the shop!
Our Spring Make-a-long is centered on the Pressed Flowers patterns by Amy Christoffers. She has written designs using this mosaic motif for a hat, cowl, shawl, and cardigan. Mosaic knitting is a way of creating colorwork designs using slipped stitches, so you only ever have to be knitting with one color at a time.
Session B classes focus on either the shawl or the cardigan pattern (you decide which one you would like to work on! The first session will be on learning the mosaic technique: for the shawl we will dive right in, for the cardigan we will be testing our gauge and learning the mosaic technique at the same time by swatching in pattern. The second session 3 weeks later will focus on continuing work, addressing questions for future work, and finishing what elements we can. For example, if enough work has been completed on the cardigan we could be finishing the torso and moving on to the sleeves, though if not that much has been completed it is ok!
Please contact the shop (email rebecca@sundragonartandfiber.com or call 828-877-3550) to reserve your spot. We will need your name, phone number, and email.
For longer events inside when we will be working in close quarters, if needed due to cold or inclement weather, we will ask participants to wear a mask. We can provide masks if you need one. If this policy does not work for you, we understand, and recommend we find a time during the warmer months when we can teach you outside.
When the weather is accommodating classes meet outside on the plaza where ventilation is better and masks are not required.
Supply list:
Pressed Flowers Shawl ($5) or Cardigan ($7) pattern by Amy Christoffers, available on Ravelry. We can assist you in acquiring this if needed.
Yardage of yarn will depend on which you are making, and for the cardigan which size. For the shawl, 2 100 gram skeins each of two colors of DK yarn (4 skeins total) is recommended. The cardigan calls for sport weight yarn, we would recommend a light DK as well. Contact us for consultation as to how much yarn will be needed for your size.
US 6 (4.0mm)circular needles for the shawl, we recommend 32” or longer. For the cardigan, the pattern recommends a US5 (3.75mm) circular, or size needed for gauge. a 32” will be great for the torso knitting, some method of small circumference knitting for the sleeves will be needed.
tapestry needle (needed when your project is finished)
*no refunds or reduction in price if you can only attend one session. Please contact us about other options for meeting times if this is the case
