The autumn MAL focuses on knitting: top-down, stranded colorwork yoke sweaters. We have a short list (see below) of recommended patterns, and we are going to try a couple of new things for the classes, see our guidelines below:

1) Rather than have classes be on one specific pattern, they will be on a series of topics related to top-down colorwork sweaters. The workshops will be a combination of talks from the instructor on that day's topics, question and answer session, and working with students on their projects wherever they find themselves. For example, even if you have not knit through your colorwork yoke, you may still want to attend the workshop on sleeve separation. Bring your project along!

2) We are going to be offering in-person workshops on Saturdays, and virtual versions of the same topic on Zoom on Sundays. All will have an instruction fee associated (see #4)

3) Students can pick one of the sweaters from the short list for their project, or a pattern of their own choosing: the only limitation is it needs to be in the style of the MAL, a top-down sweater.

4) Fees: There will be 5 sessions with a different workshop topic for each. If you'd like to participate in the workshops, there will be a fee per session (in-person is $30), or one sum for all sessions ($120).

5) Schedule: Please see below for the schedule of events for Series A. If this is full, please check out the schedule for Series B, Starting September 9.

I. Getting started: Processing the pattern, selecting a size, calculating/selecting yarn, gauge swatching, casting on. September 2, 10am-12pm

II. Working on the yoke: increasing, stranded colorwork (ways to do stranded colorwork, methods of locking your floats if needed). September 16, 10am-12pm

IV. Returning to the sleeves: Getting your work back on needles, starting the sleeves. Options: one at a time, setup for 2-at-a-time sleeves. Basic sleeve shaping. October 14, 10am-12pm

V. Finalizations: Binding off, sewing in ends, closing holes, concepts of blocking. October 28, 10am-12pm

When the weather is accommodating classes meet outside on the plaza where ventilation is better and masks are not required. For longer events inside when we will be working in close quarters, if needed due to cold/hot or inclement weather, we will strongly encourage participants to wear a mask (the instructor will wear one). We can provide masks if you need one.
