Saturday May 20, 10 am. Second session May 27, third June 3
Fee includes instruction only, we can help you select supplies from the shop if needed, discount for class supplies upon request.
Socks are a classic that many knitters like to make. There are various methods, this will focus on cuff-down socks with a classic heel that involves three parts, the flap, turn, and gusset. We will be making theme at a time, with the goal of one sock being complete at the end of the 3 weeks of classes.
Class 1 (May 20) will be starting the cuff of the sock, and getting acquainted to whatever method of “small circumference knitting” you choose: double point needles, 2 circular needles, or magic loop. The pattern selected uses 2 circulars, but other methods can be used in the class.
Class 2 (May 27) will focus on all the parts of the heel, so homework before the class will be to knit the cuff as long as you would like it to be. All three parts of the heel, the flap, turn, and start of the gusset, will be completed in class.
Class 3 (June 3) will focus on toe decreases and Kitchener graft of the end stitches. Homework before this class will be knitting the length of the foot.
If homework between any of the classes is not completed, we can always discuss alternate plans, and theories and tech piques can be worked on even if you’re not at the necessary spot! Learning and progress will still happen :)
Please contact the shop (email rebecca@sundragonartandfiber.com or call 828-877-3550) to reserve your spot. We will need your name, phone number, and email.
When the weather is accommodating classes meet outside on the plaza where ventilation is better and masks are not needed. Masks are no longer required for shopping and quick visits into the shop.
For longer events inside when we will be working in close quarters, due to cold or inclement weather, we will ask participants to wear a mask. We can provide masks if you need one. If this policy does not work for you, we understand, and recommend we reschedule when we can teach you outside.
Supply list:
Hermione’s Everyday Sock pattern by Erica Lueder, free Ravelry download. We can help you acquire this if needed.
One 100 gram skein of fingering weight yarn, preferably with a merino or wool/nylon blend for socks. Nylon or some other component to the yarn, such as silk, will help the socks hold up longer. Fingering weight yarn usually has 400-460 yards for 100 grams.
US 1 (2.25mm) needles in whatever method of small circumference knitting for socks. The pattern calls for 2 circulars, we would recommend 1 16” and one 24”. You may also use Double Point Needles or magic loop, for the latter we recommend a 32” circular.
tapestry needle (needed when your project is finished)
*no refunds or reduction in price if you can only attend one session. Please contact us about other options for meeting times if this is the case
